Understanding Foraging: A Connection to Nature

Foraging is much more than simply collecting wild food; it is a profound connection to nature and a journey towards self-sufficiency. In the UK, foraging has been a longstanding tradition, allowing individuals to tap into the rich resources available in our woodlands, meadows, and coastal areas. At 'Welcome to the Lion’s Den!', we believe that foraging is not just a skill but also an opportunity to deepen your appreciation for the environment around you. Whether you are picking wild garlic in spring or gathering blackberries in late summer, foraging encourages mindfulness and a greater understanding of seasonal cycles. This connection with nature not only nurtures the body but also nourishes the soul, making it a fulfilling activity for people of all ages.

Safety and Sustainability in Foraging - Slime Mould

Safety is paramount when it comes to foraging. It's crucial to be aware of what you are collecting and to distinguish between edible and toxic plants and fungi. At 'Welcome to the Lion’s Den!', our workshops focus on teaching you how to identify safe, edible species while avoiding harmful ones. We emphasise the importance of ethical foraging practices — only take what you need, and leave enough for wildlife and future generations. Sustainability is at the heart of our ethos; we encourage foragers to respect nature and to understand the ecological balance. By learning about native species and their habitats, you become an advocate for the environment, ensuring that foraging can be enjoyed by everyone for years to come.

We will introduce you to the world of slime mould and discuss the amazing potential in helping science. The slime mould is a highly intelligent and it has been cricual in helping the ecosystem.
